This makes a lot of sense, and is part of why Holmes and Watson are fast starting to become my OTP in a way they weren't before. I agree about the lack of wife-bashing - I come at it from a polyamorous viewpoint, where Watson does love his wives, truly and dearly, but that can't take him away from his primary thing from Holmes, even though the wife is ostensibly the primary relationship.
